Job Summary

Catalyst Marketing Agency is seeking an experienced and visionary Communications Director to join our team. This role will be critical in shaping and leading our internal and external communication strategies. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of communication principles, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of developing and executing successful communication plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Communication Planning

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with the agency’s goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of communication plans, including media relations, social media, internal communications, and crisis management.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels.

Content Development and Management

  • Lead the development of compelling content for various communication channels, including press releases, blog posts, newsletters, and social media updates.
  • Ensure all content is aligned with the agency’s brand voice and strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the production of high-quality multimedia content, including videos, graphics, and presentations.

Media Relations and Publicity

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts and industry influencers.
  • Develop and pitch story ideas to media outlets to secure coverage for the agency and its clients.
  • Manage media inquiries and coordinate responses to ensure timely and accurate information.

Internal Communications

  • Enhance internal communication processes to ensure employees are informed, engaged, and aligned with the agency’s mission and goals.
  • Develop and distribute internal newsletters, announcements, and updates.
  • Organize and facilitate internal events, such as town halls and team-building activities.

Crisis Communication

  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to manage and mitigate potential reputational risks.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for crisis communication, ensuring timely and effective responses.

Measurement and Analysis

  • Track and analyze the performance of communication strategies and campaigns.
  • Provide regular reports to senior leadership on communication effectiveness and ROI.
  • Use data-driven insights to refine and improve communication strategies.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and mentor the communications team, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members to help them achieve their professional goals.
  • Manage the recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of communications staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong media relations skills with a network of industry contacts.
  • Experience managing crisis communication and handling sensitive issues.
  • Proficiency in using communication and project management tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Skills You’ll Need to be Successful

  • Strategic thinking and the ability to develop long-term communication plans.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to develop innovative communication ideas.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms and digital communication tools.
  • Understanding of SEO and digital marketing principles.

What to Know Before Applying

  • We value a work/life balance but want to be clear that our team is global, so occasional communications will require participation outside “working” hours. Conversely, as long as you’re available for occasional meetings, we are flexible with schedules, provided you are meeting deadlines.
  • It’s important that you be highly communicative and able to work effectively within a distributed network of creatives and managers. This means taking the lead and getting the answers you need to complete your work—not waiting for someone to provide them.
  • We value diverse opinions and expect to hear your input. You must be able to take direction, but we also want someone who is excited about contributing original ideas and iterating on them with us. We are a small team, and working quickly means frank conversations and feedback in both directions.
  • The client’s vision doesn’t always align with our own. In this role, you MUST be able to manage expectations, absorb client feedback, and iterate on deliverables quickly and concisely. Where the client has an existing creative vision, you must work tactfully to move the conversation forward, gaining both the client’s and the strategist’s buy-in.
  • As a small, but growing company, we all wear a lot of hats. We’re looking for someone who views this as an opportunity to grow their skillset and possibly to take on an expanded role in communications, digital marketing, or project management.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
  • Fully paid health insurance.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • A dynamic and collaborative work environment.

Please tell us a little about yourself, your background, and why this sounds like a great fit for you, as well as a resume, and any other content you feel might be relevant. Samples of different styles of writing would be very helpful. We can't wait to meet you!
