Job Description

We’re in search of an experienced social media rockstar to head our SMM program. In this role, you’ll “own” both our and our clients’ social media marketing channels. As such, your time will be divided between ideating, developing, and publishing content, follower engagement/growth, and finally breaking down how your work is contributing to each brand’s success.

The right candidate will have a deep understanding of and passion for the science as well as the creative side of social media. This is more than the desire to make fun content, but a passion for how it can be used to shape an organization’s relationship with its fans and that relationship’s impact on various organizational objectives and key results.

This role is unique in that the candidate will be managing between 10 and 15 accounts. This means that you absolutely must be able to “throw your voice”. What do we mean by that? Since you will be working across a wide range of brands – each with its own personality – you will need to understand the nuances between how each communicates with its audience and switch effortlessly between them.

That will include the innate ability to understand how these personas impact their respective writing style, tone of voice, speech pattern, sentence length, et al. as well as multimedia and treatments like mood, quality, and style. That often includes a good deal of research about each client’s preferred style and what shapes it.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Stay current with the full universe of social media platforms and tools, understanding their audience demographics, engagement rates, and latest feature offerings.
  • Assume the lead role in the development of social strategies, direct the application of creative resources, and assume the day-to-day control of our client’s editorial calendars.
  • Ensure that the volume, quality, and cadence of content we publish matches the scope of work and has an impact on the desired objectives.
  • Build “internally facing” content that describes our social media strategy to clients, including project briefs, decks, and other presentations that illustrate how we plan to go about achieving their objectives.
  • Conceive and build unique and compelling content based on current marketplace trends and engagement rates.
  • Build posts (via our social media publishing platform) that utilize previously developed multimedia creatives, formatting practices, and the brand’s native style and voice to engage fans.
  • Take charge of multimedia content planning and development, including video scripts, production schedules, shot lists, and other workflows needed to drive content used on social media from ideation to completion. While the social media manager won’t be directly responsible for “on camera” comfort/experience in front of the camera is a big plus.
  • Monitor all social media platforms for engagement (including post content, comments, private messages, reviews, etc), respond to brand followers in real-time, and provide additional context and support where needed.
  • Be willing to jump into more niche social platforms like LinkedIn Groups, Clubhouse, Reddit, Telegram, etc as needed to reach our client’s fans.
  • Provide recommendations for the direction of our client’s social media, email, and other content and communications marketing strategies based on trends gleaned from publishing and web analytics platform data.
  • Work to continually optimize all social media accounts by ensuring that profile details are complete, linked, and aligned with the client’s broader digital marketing strategy.
  • Liaise with various social media platform support resources to resolve any challenges relating to platform access or publishing
  • Use social media advertising to help grow each client’s reach and followership, as well as work with digital marketing managers to build more focused ad programs around specific objectives.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • The ability to write persuasive, grammatically correct, and timely post captions in the voice of the client’s brand and relevant to the audience and ongoing trends.
  • Experience working collaboratively to iterate on content. We have a “two-step” system for vetting content before it goes public, not including the client’s final approval
  • The drive to work in a timely and organized fashion. Last-minute opportunities always come up, but we prefer to work at least two weeks out.
  • Proven experience leveraging a wide range of project management and social media marketing software and tools to publish communications.
  • The ability to manage up to a dozen social media marketing calendars at once, keeping each client’s workflow organized, including post setup, publishing, and analytics.
  • Proven experience with all aspects of the big five social media marketing platforms: Facebook, Twitter/X/Threads, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • The ability to conceptualize and edit short videos for release on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. You must understand and be able to leverage trends on these platforms to create engaging video edits that align with each client’s unique brand.
  • A comprehensive understanding of social media analytics and an ability to separate vanity metrics from meaningful brand engagement.
  • A strong sense of organization and deadlines – especially where it involves managing project details and deliverables.
  • A working knowledge of publishing tools and popular CMS’ – like WordPress – for inbound management and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to connect with multiple types of audiences by creating relevant and engaging content that resonates with audiences.
  • The ability to work independently, take the lead, proactively manage, and drive various projects to completion. We encourage everyone to ask for help when they need it, but you must be able to make critical decisions on your own.

What to Know Before Applying:

  • We try to respect work/life balance, but want to be clear that our team is global, so occasional communications will require participation outside “working” hours. Conversely, as long as you’re available for occasional meetings, we are flexible with schedules, provided you are meeting deadlines.
  • It’s important that you be highly communicative and able to work effectively within a distributed network of creatives and managers. That means taking the lead and getting the answers you need to complete your work – not waiting for someone to provide them.
  • We value a diverse set of opinions and expect to hear your input. You must be able to take direction, but we also want someone who is excited about contributing original ideas and iterating on them with us. We are a small team, and working quickly means frank conversations and feedback in both directions.
  • The client’s vision doesn’t always align with our own. In this role, you MUST be able to manage expectations, absorb client feedback, and iterate on deliverables quickly and concisely. Where the client has an existing creative vision, you must work tactfully to move the conversation forward, gaining both the client’s and the strategist’s buy-in.
  • As a small, but growing company, we all wear a lot of hats. We’re looking for someone who views this as an opportunity to grow their skillset and possibly to take on an expanded communications, digital marketing, or project management role.
  • We are not looking for someone who’s exploring the idea of doing social media professionally, wants to be an influencer, etc. We are looking for someone who looks at social as a communications career, has developed a deep understanding of its functioning, and is passionate about how it can be used for growth.

TO APPLY

Please tell us a little about yourself, your background, and why this sounds like a great fit for you, as well as a resume, and any other content you feel might be relevant. Samples of different styles of writing would be very helpful. We can't wait to meet you!
